Philippe Gandiol & Melissa Chandon

August 23 - September 1, 2007

6 NIGHTS MONDOUBLEAU - 3 NIGHT PARIS

Limited to 10 Painter’s

The workshop will begin in Paris. For the first 3 nights the group will stay in the Latin Quarter and will have a French emersion into art, museums, gardens, and café’s. A visit to the Musee de l’ Orangerie, which houses Monet’s huge oval water lily paintings. The museum just reopened last fall after a 6 year renovation. Another outing is planned to Giverny, located about 45 miles northwest of Paris, the quaint French village, best known as the home of Impressionist painter, Claude Monet. We will also visit one of the oldest art supply stores, Sennelier located by Ecole des Beaux-Arts.

Then we travel to Montdoubleau where the group will stay in a wonderful French home. The owners run their home as an inn. This deluxe house affords lots of room and this will be our home for the next 6 nights. The workshop includes all of our meals in Montdoubleau, our meals will be prepared for us by our own chef, daily outings to paint ”plein air”, life just can’t get any better.

Mondoubleau is located in the Perche Vendomois, a hilly countryside, pastoral, very beautiful. About 30 km south there is an old renaissance village. To download more information on the area click here.

Philippe Gandiol Biography

View Philippe's work

I was born in Paris and moved to California in 1975. I spent many years working for the music industry and have been painting full-time since 2001. I pursued art most of my life and have been painting with oils for 16 years. I am a self taught artist. I took art classes in France, San Francisco and Sacramento. I studied also with experienced California artists. For the last five years my passion has been plein air painting. My daily routine consists of painting outside alone or with fellow artists and working in my studio located in Davis, California. I paint mostly with oils in a loose style using thick paint to render the world that I see and feel around me. To find out more about my work, please check my website listed below.

About Melissa Chandon

Melissa Chandon considers herself to be an abstract realist. Among her greatest influences she cites the Bay Area Figurative painters, specifically Richard Diebenkorn. She also feels that were it not for her friend and mentor Professor Wayne Thiebaud of University of California, Davis, she would not be the painter that she is today. Perhaps her greatest influence, however, is her environment. “I have always been, even as a small child, strongly influenced by my environment. I paint narrative journals of my life which, in and of themselves, are complete worlds.” The paradox of creating an image while portraying a complete story within the confines of a two-dimensional surface is the challenge foremost in Melissa’s mind while she works.
