Adventure Travel Terms
Adventure Travel and Eco-tourism may be unfamiliar to some... Please feel free to call us with any additional questions.
Adventure Travel is graded on a scale from one to five, with one being the easiest and five being the most strenuous.
- Easiest - Many activities are optional and involve fairly easy travel.
- Easy to Moderate - Some activities are optional, but may involve more active travel by conventional, or unconventional, means (elephants, camels, sea kayaks, or 4-wheel-drive vehicles) as well as trips with short hikes of 2 to 3 hours or optional walks at low elevations.
- Moderate - More active trips involving hiking over moderate terrain, usually, but not always, with vehicle support and at elevations less than 10,000 feet, or trips requiring wilderness camping or other mandatory activity.
- Moderate to Strenuous - Hiking over steeper or more rugged terrain, longer days, or where elevations exceed 10,000 feet. Includes more demanding river rafting trips with Class IV - V rapids.
- More Strenuous - Our most demanding trips: hiking over steep, rugged terrain at high elevations (no vehicle support), or Class V river trips that require previous paddling experience.
An adventure travel glossary of terms:
- Trips referred to as "tours" are usually the most accessible itineraries. They may be adventure trips in their destinations, activities and spirit, but do not demand a great degree of physical conditioning, though some walking is a part of each.
- "Adventures" are for those who wish to get farther afield and experience varying degrees of wilderness travel, camping, and activities that assume a degree of physical fitness and flexibility for maximum enjoyment.
- "Explorations" are where magical experiences may occur, with varying degrees of physical fitness required, but where flexibility is essential since one must always expect the unexpected.
